It's been almost sunny the last few weeks in PDX, and you know what that means, right? It means i'm lathering on the SPF and self tanning and wearing a ton of bronzer! Here's a few faves;

CoverFX Gold - it's like NARS Laguna but just a little dewier and a little more color for me, but I like it because it always looks naturan.

Lorac Warm Glow - like the name, it's a little rosier than your average bronzer, but it makes you look like you were dipped in the fountain of youth and you're still sprinkling from it

St Tropez Bronzing Mousse - WHERE HAVE I BEEN? I just recently purchased this and I feel like my life thus far has been incomplete! It's such a great color, not orange at all, and last night after tanning with it my boyfriend actually asked me what smelled so GOOD!!

Comodynes self tanning wipes - These are faves for my face and chest, they apply really evenly, I've never streaked with them, and they're easy to use. Like the St Tropez they're good for girls like me who tan to more of an olive color, I don't think it looks super faux.

Along with our super star Megan, little old me is training to run a half marathon in June with my dad and sister! This means lots of hard work, and lots of the elements since it apparently snows in Portland in April now.

A couple of days ago Jai and I decided to try to replicate this beautiful look Jessica Alba has been wearing that I'm obsessed with, we did it with the Lorac palette that includes a primer, and used their 3 in 1 waterproof liners. I felt so pretty I didn't want to take it off for my run, so I didn't even though it was pouring like crazy. The exciting thing is that I ran 2.6 miles in a downpour, then did an hour of Barre 3, and when I got home I did a little cleanup underneath my eyes, but the look was still there! I feel like we really put it to the test here!

Those things along with the eyeko mascara and Susan Posnick Colorflo, I coudn't be touched!

Face Stockholm by Lazy Girl

I was very excited when the Head Blush Girl told me that she was getting in Face Stockholm at the store. If you couldn't tell, I am a huge makeup junkie. One of life's greatest pleasures for me is exploring a new makeup line. I have heard of a lot of them--even if I haven't physically touched them. Face Stockholm is one of them. HBG told me that this was a massive line--lots and lots to choose from, and since HBG has such great instincts with makeup, I knew that they would choose carefully and would give her customers the best of the best.

That said, I am pretty jaded when it comes to new makeup lines. To me, a lot of them seem totally boring--it seems like anyone and everyone is starting one. Take, for example, the Trina Tarantino line for Sephora. Bad makeup. Bad packaging. Great design, however. It felt like that was the main purpose--Great design, forget about making good makeup.

Face Stockholm is the real deal. They have interesting colors, both for their eye shadows and their lip sticks. But the best thing I bought is their foundation. I love that there's so many things to choose from--but it's overwhelming for me. Enter the Blush Girls. One of my favorite ones took me in hand and led me to the promised land. I told her that although I have a lot of choices of foundation in my makeup kit, I was bored with them (such is the life of a makeup junkie). I also have deep dark circles under my eyes. As I have said before, I am constantly looking for the nirvana of undereye concealer. My BG first put on a neutralizer called Blue. It's supposed to counteract your natural color. She put Magic Wand 3 on top of it. It's got a little highlighting materials in it that look truly great. Then she used a foundation brush and put Picture Perfect Foundation Shade A. It claims to camouflage all my surface imperfections and accentuate the contours of my face for a flawless demi-satin finish.

I just loved the overall effect. It isn't too much--you know how too much feels totally gross? This doesn't. It's just the right effect. As a true lazy girl, I love being able to walk in the store and have my BG pick out the perfect thing for me. Of course, after my skin looked so great, I needed a new Face Stockholm blush to go with it! And a lipstick. That was it. Promise. For now.

How far do you go with your man?

I've got a pretty good boyfriend. He's pretty understanding about the fact that I like to spend some time on my skin and beauty! I've got a co-worker who has a strict "no sleeping in face masks" rule. In my household it's just the opposite. In fact, he'll join in! About once a week, I'll decide my skin needs some concoction and come out of the bathroom looking somewhere between the movies hairspray and silence of the lambs, and his respone is so lovingly "I think I need a masque too."

It's so refreshing to feel together on skin care! I even caught him sneaking my new Bare Minerals cleanser the other day! It's hard to stay mad, although I do have a little hiding spot for my faves!

So ladies, how far do you guys go on sharing skincare? I've heard everything from "We had to fight over our ANSR beam on our wedding night" to "He refuses to wash because he thinks he's too sensitive"!

I'm in need of a brow wax. You'd think that would be easy considering where I work, but these girls are busy! I refuse to do my own due to the amount of time I spend lecturing others on how naughty that is, and due to the fact that I've made some mistakes before...

I want to hear your best brow story, weather it was that embarassing trip to the nail salon that we all regret, or how you never knew it could be so good, and everything in between!

Full disclosure: My story would have to be the first time I ever got my brows "done". I worked at a diner in the town I grew up in as a hostess, and the other host, a fierce man with more style in his pinky than I had in my whole closet, told me my brows were a mess and he was goiong to fix them. The next day I came to work, tweezers in hand, and he styled and shaped them for me! It took about an hour in the lobby of the restaurant while we were both supposed to be wiping down menus or something like that, and at the end they actually had a pretty good shape! I wouldn't recommend trusting them to strangers, but thank god someone finally told me how out of control they were!

This could be an obvious question, drink water, duh, but this time of year that's not enough for my poor dry skin! The difference between oil rich skin and properly hydrated skin is super important, you can have an oily skin type and still experience dryness. I personally have noticed with all this Portland weather mayhem the last couple of weeks, I'm a little duller than I'd like, and I'm experiencing more redness than usual.

Of course here's my fixes, knowing lots of us are in the same boat here;
I've been using my Karuna Anti Oxidant and Hydrating masques, they are a cheese cloth soaked in special concoctions, the cloth is specifically designed to hold in more product, therefore more moisture!

I also have enjoyed Arconas' Wine Hydrating Masque, leaves me feeling smooth and firm!

These paired with regular exfoliationg and the occasional skin treatment keep me happy all year round!

As much as we all love our man-friends, this February 14th I'm choosing to celebrate myself instead. Because I think us ladies are awesome and worth the splurge! I'm making a list in my head of ways to feel pretty and wonderful, and heres my plan;

I'm starting with an Arcona Raspberry Resurfacing Peel, then I'm doing their Wine Hydrating Masque (I never spend the time doing both, and it's awesome!)

I'm going to Put some Brown sugar body scrub from Treat into my bathtub while enjoying said masques

I'm going to pick out one of Butter Londons new spring polishes for a mani and pedi, because yes, I do bring my own polish ; )

I was recently persuaded (or you could say FORCED by Megan) to detox my skin. I was using so many different things, and all were great products, but I went a little overboard with the mixing and matching and I was breaking out and just not feeling fabulous. She started me on washing in the evening with Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel which is really nourishing feeling and simple in formula. In the mornings and at night I moisturized with Arcona's Magic White Ice. With the exception of eye cream, that is ALL I was allowed to use. Big change.

This bring me to our topic, I'm slowly working things back in, but I realized that for some people, a little less is a little more. What's your approach to skin care?

Does your skin like to be primped and pampered? Does it feel hydrated from just a little love and not too much fuss? Are you that middle of the road girl who knows how to treat herself with a masque but keeps it simple?

Arcona Men Profiency

I finally had the courage to consult with Rachel at Blush Beauty Bar, and let her know all about my imperfections or as I call it "the blackhead convention on my nose"...she took a good look at what I was dealing with, and recommended that I start using Arcona Men Proficiency - cleansing & exfoliating pads for body and face. She gave me very simple instructions on how to use the product, what to do and what not to do, it contains Salicylic Acid and Retinol which combats stubborn breakouts, and leaves your skin cleansed and helps reduce enlarged pores. She also told me that I should cut the pads in half, and use one half every nite after cleaning my face. With her instructions, I went for it...after using this product for 2 weeks, I have already noticed a change, and within time my condition should improve and hopefully the "blackhead convention" will no longer be something that I will have to deal with. I was told to use it over a few months to get the best results. And I will do just that.
My skin is super sensitive, so before using this product I was a little worried about the reaction my skin may have to it, as I have tried other products that have just made the condition worse. Arcona is really on top of their game, their products do exactly what they say they will do.

Positive : It really works, leaves your skin feeling refreshed, restores skin. This product is super effective and restores your pores and nourishes the skin. It also smells like hazel, which is really awesome, unlike other brands where all you smell is alcohol after applying them on your face/skin. The packaging is very nice, the container which holds the pads is well built and it is almost impossible for this product to dry up ( unless you forget to seal it back up ).

Negative : There should be a warning on the package : Wash hands after use and make sure that your hands are completely clean before touching other body parts. The first night I used it, I just rinsed my hands, and then put body lotion on my body...about 5 minutes later...my body started to tingle...it went away, but the active ingredients were still on my hands after using the product...but now I know how to use this product and I will not have to deal with this issue anymore.

I have been getting my "downtown" waxed for the past few years--brazilian, if you must know. So, the outbreaks of ingrown hair are a fairly new issue for me. I have been happily au natural until now and haven't had to deal with this problem. Ingrown hairs are painful and annoying. I have tried a number of things to mitigate this problem, with very little success.

This last month's waxing yielded many more "issues" than before. So, I turned to my Blush Girls for some help. After carefully listening to my litany of complaints (don't you just love a sympathetic shoulder to cry on?), she pointed me in the direction of Peter Thomas Roth's Anti aging Buffing Beads Body Wash.

I usually can't stand body washes. They are usually too stinky for me and don't really seem to do anything at all. But, I trust my girls, so I bought it and vowed that my issue can't get any worse.

The next morning, I tried it and continued using it. Within a few days, my situation started clearing up and while it's not completely solved, it definitely looks better. I love the beads---they aren't too rough. I like the scent--it's delicate and not overpowering. Best of all, it's making my skin feel great. My eczema on my legs is actually getting better.

So, a big result from one product--a lazy girl's dream!

Stila Custom Color Blush Review By Lazy Girl

One thing in Stila's Fall line is super cool--a custom color blush. It's supposed to be the perfect color, no matter what color or texture of your skin. Now, I don't usually go for gimmicky stuff like this....I mean, if it's perfect, then why do you continue to offer other colors? Why doesn't every makeup line have this "perfect" technology for blush?

I am a total magpie when it goes to make up, too. I am all about the packaging and the smell. So, when I looked at this blush, I was very turned off. It's a really, really pink blush--the kind of pink that doesn't look good on anyone. The kind of blush that was popular in the 80s. But, I gamely tried it.

Wow. It really did look good on me. It delivered a natural blush--a glowing pink that seemed almost like I had nothing on. So, I turned to my Blush Girl and made her put it on. I even made her use the brush I was using. It looked good on her too.

The technology isn't so scientific as it is just a finely milled product that deposits a sheer layer of color on top of your skin. As someone who doesn't like a whole lot of blush, this is a good addition to my makeup bag. That works for me.

Recently, I committed an intervention on a friend’s blush. She usually has such great makeup, that when I sat with her one hot Saturday in her amazing store, I couldn’t keep it in any longer....her blush was wrong. I am the type of person that if you have something in your teeth, I will ALWAYS tell you it’s there. So, when I saw that my friend was wearing a too light pink blush and had applied it all the way up to her temples, I had to say something. We agreed to meet at Blush to find her perfect color.

I got there early and recruited one of the Blush girls to be my conspirator. She sat my friend down and helped her find her perfect (for now!--I AM a makeup junkie, after all!) But here’s the thing--finding the blush was wonderful, but what my friend got out of the session with my Blush girl was the fact that she had been putting her blush on totally incorrectly.

As a girl of a certain age, I was first taught to put my blush on from my cheekbones up to my temple, all the while sucking in my cheeks. Ok ladies, we aren’t in the 80s anymore! Enter my FAVORITE brush. The NARS Yachiyo brush. It has this interesting gently tapered spiral dome head, and a hand-spun black wisteria thingies around the handle. This brush is perfect for application of powder and color. Its multi-functional design is excellent for defining cheekbones, highlighting the complexion, as well as blending and diffusing color on or around the eye area. You just lightly brush it over the apples of your cheeks and voila! perfect blush every time. Add some bronzer in your T-zone, and you have a great, healthy look. My philosophy is that you just need to look like you’ve run around the block....not like someone has just slapped your face. (Which I am very grateful my friend did NOT do during my intervention!)

I guess it was only a matter of time before I finally saw something that I couldn't resist to try and buy. Just FYI - this blog is coming from a guy who has no clue about beauty products or the beauty world, so my opinion is fair and honest.
Green Tea Goods came into Blush Beauty Bar the other week, and I was drawn to it almost immediately, the smell coming from the package took me back to China Town in NYC ( the good smell from China Town ) anyways...I tried the Herbal Body Balm for a few reasons. I have very dry skin, and I always need something on it to keep it from drying up. On the label the Herbal Body Balm says " moisturize and soothe with natural ingredients"...all skin care products say that, so I was a little hesitant, but the smell of green tea was just too much to pass down. I applied some on my arms, I wanted to see if my skin would react to this. It didn't react badly to it at all, so I decided to try some on the back of my neck, and to my surprise, my skin was feeling great. When I say I have bad skin, I do, I spent most of my childhood fighting off skin problems that no doctor could figure out, but after hundreds of tests, I finally know what makes my skin react negatively to certain products. With this in mind, I wanted to see if the Herbal Body Balm would work as a Deodorant, so I went ahead and applied some on under my arm pits, and went to work where I was working quite hard that day, lifting and moving stuff, so there was quite a few times I was sweating...and the best part, my co-worker told me "you smell like Tea...and it smells good"....so to wrap this up...Green Tea Goods is one of the best products I have used in a long time, it is made in Portland,Oregon and it is not tested on animals. I would use this on the airplane also, to keep my skin protected while flying, skin normally dries out on long flights. I keep one in my backpack for whenever I need to use it.

I wear different, often intense, colors on my eyes everyday, but the thing I wear every day--and I mean every day--is black eyeliner in my waterline. I tend to befriend sales associates at different makeup lines. Armani’s sales associate Joey told me that he really liked that I wore that look everyday....that I made it my own. I am not sure if he was subtly insulting me or complimenting me, so I’ll assume it was a compliment.

As I said before, I am constantly looking for the nirvana of products, and black eyeliner is a big one. I’ve bought many different blacks, looking for an intense black that goes on smoothly and lasts, so I don’t have to reapply.

My Blush girls pointed me in the direction of Noir. Haven’t ever heard of that line, you say? Well, let me introduce you to a fantastic line where everything in it is black (noir...get it?). I have tried the thick liner (pretty good), the regular (non waterproof) pencil, and the pot liner where you need to use a brush. And I am totally smitten with the retractable waterproof eyeliner. It is amazing.

The biggest testament to my love of this product is that I have repurchased this liner three times. I don’t repurchase ANYTHING. In my mind, there’s always something else out there that’s equally as good or better. Let me say that there’s nothing better than this one. Firstly, the color is deep, rich black. Secondly, the application is flawless...not pulling or gloppy too soft application, and lastly, this stuff is still there at the end of the day, which for a lazy girl, is total nirvana!

I love intense colors on my eyes and I love red lipstick. The problem is that when I am putting on my makeup in the morning, I get too excited about my great colors that I am often wearing too much on the eyes to justify red lips. And as a true Lazy Girl, I don’t want to have to worry about my eye makeup fading or creasing.

My Blush Girls told me that I should use a eye makeup primer. So for months now I have been using Girlactik cream shadows as a base--quite successfully. But then, they pointed me in a new direction....enter bareMinerals Prime Time eyelid primer.

Honestly, I really don’t like the bareMinerals line, so I was extremely wary about using this. My Blush Girl convinced me to try it by saying that while the Girlactik line was good, you got a shimmery color to begin with and when you apply your makeup, you have to take that into account. The bareMInerals Prime Time eyelid primer offers no color whatsoever.

So, I tried it. WOW! my makeup doesn’t move. It’s one of those products that really lives up to its hype. I have tried super dark green....perfect at the end of the day. Light gold....still there at 8pm! I absolutely love it. So, although I don’t love, love the bareMinerals line, I LOVE LOVE this product!

I wear a good amount of makeup, but the one thing I don’t ever wear enough of is blush. The Blush Girls tease me whenever I insist that I really did put blush on that morning. As a true Lazy Girl, I am not someone who will reapply anything (except for lipstick and gloss) during the day--not powder, not concealer, not blush. So, when Stila’s spring line included a little gem called One Step, I was intrigued....

There are about six colors to choose from, but I bought Rosie Posie. It’s a terrifyingly pink color. It claims to combine the benefits of primer, lip color, eye shadow, and cheek color in one formula. It also says that the color is build-able and long-lasting. Hmm. I have fallen for this trick before (can we talk about the MAC Prowear Lipstain Marker? Looked great on my hand and for about two minutes on my lips and then fades away....ugh!) and was VERY distrustful that this product would deliver.

So, I have been testing it out in different ways. It seems to me the best way to wear it is over my foundation, although wearing it under the foundation and letting the color show through works, too. I have to say, I really like it. The pink is very natural--it looks like a just took a quick walk around the block. And, most importantly, it lasts!

When I put it on, the Blush Girls congratulated me. Finally! Enough Blush. I aim to please.

I have never gotten the memo on body washes. I see advertisements for them all the time and I just don’t ever see the point. First of all, maybe I don’t want to smell like orange blossom or tahitian jasmine all day. I usually make my scent decision when I am fully dressed. And I kind of feel like body wash is a total waste....I have to use so much of it that I feel like half of it is going down the drain--squirt for one leg....squirt for second leg...squirt for body...oops...that squirt just fell off my hand and went down the drain.

So when the Blush Girls let me try Treat’s O My Goodness Organic Glycolic Anti-wrinkle Scrubbing Wash, I was pretty skeptical. I half heartedly agreed, thinking that I could pawn off the review on my daughter. Then, when my soap ran out, I pulled it out and started trying it.

I am pleasantly surprised! I love the product. I love the smell (minor). I love the little scrubbing dots in it to help scrub my skin (not too rough). I love the fact that it makes my skin less dry because I battle my dry skin constantly.

The package says there’s 2.5% glycolic acid mixed with organic aloe that helps exfoliate dead skin cells, stimulate cell turnover, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

Whatever....I love the fact that I can wash my face with the same stuff as I wash my body. For a lazy girl, that’s a real find!

Dr. Kiss Lip Balm Review by Lazy Girl

There are a few beauty products that I just buy multiples of--lip balm and mascara are two. By that, I mean, I will buy several different brands of an item because I want to find the “nirvana” product. Of course, with the beauty world changing and improving all the time, finding that perfect product is impossible. But that doesn’t stop me!

I buy lip balm all the time. I like to have it stashed in almost every floor of my house, in the pockets of my coats, or in my car. I don’t have particularly chapped lips or anything, but there’s something comforting that I know that if I forget my lipstick (unforgivable!) I can quickly find something to put on my lips. Needless to say, I am NOT loyal to any brand.

Before you all go start getting “Carmex” on me, let me tell you about a lip balm that I think I may have to drop all my other ones for. Dr. Kiss. by Vanitymark has everything I look for in a balm. The taste is incredible (hate the ones that smell good, but taste like the beeswax it’s made out of) and the shine isn’t too glossy (I am talking to you, Kiehls!). Best of all, its packaging is super cute--it looks like a little pill!

The product seems to work, too. I usually swipe it on before bed and my lips feel great in the morning. I went to the coast last weekend and put a dap of it on a dry spot on my face and that was mostly gone by morning, too.

So, until something better comes along (it usually does), I am sticking with my Dr. Kiss.

Susan Posnick Colorflo Foundation

I thought as a lady who has recently switched over to the world of mineral powder foundations, my two cents may be valuable. I must start by saying that for ages I was using super heavy cream and liquid foundations, and experiencing a mix of coverage depending on what I was using, but I definitely tried 'em all.

When one of the Blush girls recommended I try out Susan Posnick Colorflo foundation, she had such amazing things to say about it, I was sold. I immediately got matched for a color and got the brush, which is nice because it's refillable. You invest in the brush once and it lasts from what I hear about two years and then all you have to do it refill it with the powder in your color. This seems awesome to me too because if I need a different color for summer, the refills last me about two and half or three months, just long enough to make my tanned face flawless and dewy, and then to go back to my "portland wintertime" look (pale).

This isn't all that I love about Susan Posnick. The brush is really convenient and compact, and it's got a lid to protect the bristles, but that's all mechanics. As far as my skin goes, it loves this foundation! There are only nine ingredients, and it's made to be non-irritating even to sensitive skin. It never feels heavy, it doesn't move around, and it looks gorgeous. It allows my skin to show through instead of looking and feeling suffocated. Her products are water resistant, sweat resistant and anti-bacterial. The powder is super fine, and it goes on looking a little powdery but warms up with my skin and melds into it so you can see that I have skin underneath it! The coverage is something I've had to work with, having a few blemishes. What she recommends is you open up the brush and grab a little more powder with a concealer brush to get more concentrated coverage from it. I've followed these instructions, and I still need to use a concealer for my darker areas, but her product is pretty amazing, and it never feels like I'm wearing anything super heavy on my face. I get more compliments on my skin when I'm wearing this than ever before!

All in all, Susan Posnick is AMAZING. She also has blushes, lip stains, eye colors, bronzers, and much more, all in convenient applicating containers, and beautiful colors that seem to suit all different types of beauties! Check 'em out at Blush Beauty Bar soon!!

The NARS Orgasm blushes are stuff of legends. It’s always touted as the one color that looks good on everyone. I gamely bought my blush, used it faithfully, and realized one day that it really didn’t look that great on me. Sigh. So when the Orgasm Illuminator was announced and all blogosphere was gaga, I wasn’t in any hurry to buy it. I didn’t want to spend my hard earned cash on another product that disappointed. But being the makeup junkie I am, I had to try it--not expecting a thing.

Ok. I am wrong.

It’s great.

I was expecting it to be the same corally color as the blush, but it’s not. It’s surprisingly easy to use...just a small dab smoothes on my skin with just a hint of color. As I learned from my makeup maven, Dawn, it works really well under my foundation--the glow comes through. I can also use it as a highlighter over my foundation--the glow sits as quiet and elegant as can be.

So, while I won’t be using my Orgasm multiple or blush, I will be using the illuminator. Finally!
